About me....

My approach to counseling is to revere the whole person and the mind-body connection. This somatic approach is informed by Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, Parts Work, and Trauma-informed care. Polyvagal Theory invites the value of our nervous system’s reactions to our thoughts, feelings, and environments. As we learn to track your polyvagal nerve’s associations and triggers, we learn how to precisely feel safe and secure in different experiences. Attachment Theory and Parts Work note how we relate to others and ourselves; if there were traumatic events or on-going distress in past relationships, we can naturally feel trust fractured with ourselves, others, and the world. You and I get to explore where those wounds are and repair them with this lens. Trauma-informed care means that I am joining you and your nervous system in the session, helping learn the pace you uniquely need so we create corrective experiences and minimize risk of re-traumatization. Together these theories invite you to develop the same skills - learning to name and track your reactions, experiment which coping skills help in which situations, and when a crisis hits, feel like you can get through to the other side of it.

I have recently worked at OurVOICE, a local community agency serving people impacted by sexual violence. I provided individual counseling and support groups. Prior to that, I worked with groups of women in prisons to educate trauma theory and recovery, as well I previously helped mentor those in early recovery at substance use treatment.

At Daya, Jenna works with adults around trauma (past and present), grief, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, sexuality, relationship issues, and cultural oppression. Jenna is happy to work with those in LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and Polyamorous communities.
